This second series Rolex "Pre-Daytona" 6238 has a mechanical manual winding Valjoux 72 caliber 722 movement. It is rhodium-plated and it is constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber device, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat and three positions. It includes a self-compensating free sprung Bréguet balance spring and a Microstella regulating screws.
This mechanism oscillates at the frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz).
Case, dial and movement are signed.
This model was in production from 1961/62 to 1968 and succeeded the model 6234. At the same time, Rolex started the production of the first Daytona ref.6239 in 1963.
The 6238 is the last chronograph generation to feature a smooth bezel.
