It is constructed with 18 jewels, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet balance-spring, and a micrometer regulator.
Dial, case and movement are signed.
Patek Philippe produced the reference 1578 from 1943 until approximately 1965.
Like its chronograph counterpart ref. 1579, ref. 1578 is immediately distinguished by its faceted "spider lugs". The model was cased in yellow, pink and white gold, featuring both subsidiary seconds and centre seconds.
