The Rolex GMT-Master II Coke Reference 16710 stands as a pinnacle in the horological realm, celebrated for its iconic design and functional prowess. Unveiled in 1989 as the successor to the reference 16760, it remained in production until 2007, giving way to the reference 116710, which continued its legacy until 2018. 

Tailored for aviation professionals and frequent travelers, all versions of the iconic Rolex GMT Master II 16710 featured a black dial, a red GMT hand, and offered bezel options: Blue/Red (BLRO) "Pepsi," Red/Black "Coke," or all black (LN) inserts. The "Coke" moniker was due to its red and black bezel, reminiscent of Coca-Cola's classic colors, while the "Pepsi" nickname derived from its resemblance to the colors of the Pepsi beverage.

Crafted with precision, the Reference 16710 boasts a 40mm stainless steel case, a resilient scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a rotatable 24-hour bezel. Its standout feature lies in its capacity to concurrently track multiple time zones, facilitated by the GMT function and an additional 24-hour hand.

Across its impressive 18-year production span, the 16710 underwent notable variations. Tritium dials marked T<25 adorned these timepieces until 1997, followed by a transition to LumiNova from approximately 1998 to 1999. From 2000 to 2007, Super-LumiNova took the stage.

Enhancements continued with the introduction of solid end links to the bracelets in 2000, while 2003 saw a refined case design, eliminating exterior holes on the lugs.

Evolution persisted within the Reference 16710, including advancements in movement technology. The calibre 3185 was first announced by Rolex in 1989 and featured an independently-adjustable GMT hand. The rotor that powers this movement is bidirectional and when fully wound the movement will have a power reserve of 50 hours. The Rolex caliber 3185 was used in the Rolex GMT-Master II 16710 between 1989 and 2005. The last of the Rolex GMT Master II 16710's (2006-2007) were powered by the updated calibre 3186 movement.

The 16710 utilizes a bidirectional self-winding mechanism powered by the Perpetual rotor, housed in a stainless steel screw-down solid case back. Its stainless steel Twinlock waterproofness system screw-down crown, featuring the iconic Rolex logo, ensures outstanding water resistance.
