This is a wonderful example of 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe ref. 2526 retailed by Serpico y Laino. Its outstanding condition enhances the rarity of the present specimen, and the retailer's mark Serpico y Laino – Patek Philippe’s agent in Caracas – signed on the enamel dial and the initials “S & L” stamped on the case back.
The "type D" guilloché brique-form original gold bracelet was manufactured by Gay Frères (founded in 1835 in Geneva) with “GF” initials stamped on the buckle.
The push/pull 18K yellow gold crown is adorned with sculpted opposing 'Ps,' making it very distinctive. Unfortunately, Patek used this crown style for only a short period of time and then discontinued it.

The ref. 2526 is really just one model among a handful that used Patek Philippe's very first self-winding caliber – 12-600 AT – though many refer to the reference 2526 as being Patek's first automatic.

This reference can be divided into three distinct series:

- First series: domed case back, enamel dial, and riveted indexes. The dial presents flared holes under each index to allow for their setting.
- Second series: domed case back, enamel dials with the numerals glued to the surface. The dial presents only two flared holes for the hands.
- Third series: flat case back, and in later examples, metal dial.
It was then replaced in 1960 by the model ref. 3428 (the so-called fourth series), equipped with the second generation self-winding movement, caliber 27-460.
