The caliber Audemars Piguet 2225 is a mechanical bi-directional self-winding movement that is rhodium-plated, with fausses côtes embellishment, and constructed with 40 jewels. It has a an annular balance, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance with variable inertia block that is adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism, and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance-spring, a rotor mounted on ceramic ball bearings with oscillating weight segmentin 24K gold, and the bevels on the bridge are diamond graved, and a stop balance when setting the time (stops seconds hand).
This mechanism oscillate at a frequency of 28,800 vhp (4 Hz).

Audemars Piguet introduced this Royal Oak model 14700 in the 1990's as a scale-down version of the original Royal Oak Ref. 5402.
