The round-shaped solid 18K yellow gold two-body case, fancy stepped straight lugs, and flat bezel are all polished.

The 18K yellow gold solid snap case back is engine turned and engraved with the Vacheron & Constantin Switzerland signature, the case serial number, and hallmarks.
The rhodium-plated movement is signed "Vacheron & Constantin" and bears the Seal of Geneve quality mark and "Geneve Swiss" hallmarks. The movement is equipped with a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance with screws adjusted to temperature, a self-compensating Bréguet balance spring, a Superchoc shock-absorber device, and a swan-neck micrometer index regulator.
The calibers 453 and 454 powered most Vacheron Constantin's production during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Caliber 453, in its simplest form, was a three-hand watch with sub-seconds; caliber 454 added indirect center seconds.
The caliber 454/5B with sweep seconds features a column wheel, which is frequently found on chronographs but is uncommon on 'time only" watches, 8 original adjustments, and two Geneva Seals, which is a horological achievement beyond the usual Chronometer certification. This mechanism oscillates at the frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz)
These timepieces are referred to as "center seconds" by collectors and scholars.
Overall, the case is in fine shape, with only a few minor scratches. However, the crisp and visible hallmarks on the case's side at 4 o'clock and the rear of the top left lug, as well as the signs of oxidation, indicate that the case was lightly polished.
