The Bulgari Serpenti was inspired by the Tubogas, which has existed in various forms since the 1940s. The Tubogas took years to design, taking cues from gas pipelines and assembled with a metal coil surrounded by interconnecting precious metal bands.
Tubogas translates literally to “gas pipe” and is the descriptive name given to a type of chain formed from a pair of interlocking gold strips wrapped tightly together. This forms a flexible and hollow tubular necklace/bracelet that requires no soldering.
Several Serpenti models, including this lovely example, were operated with miniature watch movements by Jaeger-LeCoultre, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, along more.
